Stellar Memories

VR/AR Experience Design
Designer: Kejia Yu, Ying Zhang

INSPIRATION

Inspired by the limitations of traditional photo apps that lack playfulness and immersion, this project explores how VR can transform memory reviewing into an engaging, intuitive experience. The motivation stems from democratizing personal exhibitions - making museum-quality memory curation accessible to everyone.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A VR memory explorer that transforms personal photos into an immersive 3D constellation experience. Users navigate memories through spatial positioning based on GPS data and temporal height mapping by year. Users can browse their photos by location, with a virtual exhibition for each city showcasing their memories there. Features include temporal browsing via crystal ball interaction, hand-gesture photo switching, and AI-generated yearly summaries.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION

Users begin in a memory plaza where photos appear as glowing stars, positioned geographically and layered by time. A central crystal ball enables temporal navigation—swiping reveals different years with AI-generated summaries displayed on screen. Each star represents a photo; touching opens a detail panel showing the image, location information, and nearby memories from different times. Grabbing a star opens a gateway to that city's personal gallery. Stepping through transports users into an immersive exhibition space with a stellar aesthetic, creating the sensation of traveling back through their own infinite universe of memories.
