An Octoroon

I want to make use of the characteristics determined by the era of this play to design three interior spaces — the interior of the house, the interior of the negroes quarters, and the interior where the auction takes place. The boxes can bring the audience's eye into each special moment, I hope they can feel that the set is not only realistic but also exaggerated, exciting, and full of emotions, just like the core of this play —— melodramatic. These three boxes can be revealed one by one through turntables, and they can also form a good projection space when they are turned back.

There is a special sensation scene in Act 4 when the ship explodes, I think it can be the moment with fire projections and the moving fast turntable. And the front two pillars of each box fall, giving the audience a sense of intense emotion. Besides, I think Br’er Rabbit Scenes can also make use of the structure of boxes because the rabbit can wander in from different unexpected corners, which can give the audience surprise.
